For many people living in the ethnic minority communities of Ha Giang, marriage is not based solely on love but also on cultural & practical factors. This system results in many forbidden relationships and the love market is a way of expressing these prohibited partnerships. The festival itself is based on the thắm thiết tragedy of a forbidden love between a girl & boy from different tribes.
